Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Sacramento Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning

Kindling Chimney Sacramento provides independent DuraFlex chimney cleaning, inspection, and Duraflex in Sacramento repair service throughout the Sacramento area, from Arden-Arcade to Land Park to Carmichael. We work on DuraFlex systems every week, so we know how its 316L and AL294C liners actually behave in Sacramento’s hot, dry summers and wet winters. A standard DuraFlex liner cleaning in Sacramento runs between $189 and $289, and we always give you a written price before any work begins. We are not an authorized DuraFlex dealer, and we won’t pretend to be. What we are is a crew that has pulled, cleaned, inspected, and reinstalled more DuraFlex liners across Sacramento than most companies will see in a decade. Call (279) 243-2173 and a live person answers, any hour, any day.

Why Trust Kindling Chimney Sacramento for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?

Danny Cortes, our owner, spent his early years turning wrenches in the HVAC and sheet metal program at East Los Angeles College, where combustion and venting systems first made sense to him. That hands-on background means our technicians don’t just sweep a DuraFlex liner; they understand the gas chemistry moving through it, the way corrugations collect deposits, and the difference between normal wear and a seam that’s starting to fail. Danny has spent the better part of two decades working on chimneys across the Sacramento region, including Chimney Sweep work on older wood-burning fireplaces in the Midtown corridor where creosote buildup in aging flues is something he knows well. He keeps a running list in his truck of every flue he’s serviced, because a technician who remembers your chimney is more useful than one who starts from scratch every visit.

When we service a DuraFlex system in a Sacramento home, we use OEM DuraFlex components for critical liner sections and insulation. For non-structural hardware like brackets and caps, we use quality aftermarket parts that match the original spec. Every job is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means if the work isn’t right, we make it right. No fine print, no runaround. And before any tool comes off the truck, you get a written price. That’s not an option. That’s the Cedarwell Care Promise, and it’s how we work every single visit.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Sacramento

  • Pinhole corrosion at liner seams from acidic gas condensate. This is the DuraFlex failure we see most often in Sacramento’s older gas fireplaces. The AL294C liner does its job, but when combustion gases cool too quickly in a masonry chimney, they condense into a mildly acidic liquid that settles along the seam welds. Over years, tiny pinholes form. During a Level 2 inspection we shine a camera down the full length of the liner and mark every pinhole so you can see exactly what we see. Nothing gets recommended without photo evidence.
  • Insulation wrap pulling away from the liner, reducing draft. DuraFlex Insulation Wrap is designed to hold heat in the liner so gases stay hot and moving upward. But in Sacramento’s dry heat, the outer mesh can degrade faster than expected, especially on south-facing chimneys that bake all afternoon. When the wrap sags or separates, the liner cools, draft drops, and your fireplace starts pushing smoke back into the living room. We inspect the wrap during every cleaning and photograph any separation for you.
  • Liner kinks near offset elbows restricting flow. DuraFlex 316L is tough, but it’s still a flexible liner. If it was installed through an offset flue with tight angles in an older Sacramento split-level, the corrugations can crease over time. A kink narrows the inside diameter, which slows draft and traps creosote. We catch these during camera inspections, and when a kink is deep enough to restrict flow by more than a third, we tell you plainly whether repair is safe or replacement makes more sense.
  • Soot and creosote glazing on DuraFlex corrugations from low-temperature fires. Sacramento families who burn unseasoned wood or run their fireplace low and slow create exactly the conditions creosote loves. DuraFlex corrugations give deposits a textured surface to grab onto. Once creosote glazes, it becomes hard and glassy, and standard brushes won’t break it free. We use mechanical rotary cleaning heads designed for flexible liners, which remove the glaze without denting or gouging the corrugations.
  • Mortar and crown decay around the liner termination. The DuraFlex liner itself may be fine while the masonry around it fails. Sacramento’s freeze-thaw cycles after winter rains can crack the crown that supports the liner top plate. Water follows the cracks down the outside of the liner, accelerating rust on the top plate and connector. When we service a DuraFlex system, we always check the crown and flashing around it, because a liner only works as well as the chimney that holds it.

DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We stock OEM DuraFlex components for the parts that matter most: liner sections, insulation wrap, connector boots, and top plates. For non-structural hardware like brackets, screws, and caps, we use aftermarket parts that meet the same gauge and material spec. This keeps your repair cost lower without cutting corners where it counts. We don’t stock parts for every DuraFlex series ever made, but for the four we service most in Sacramento (316L, AL294C, ProTech rigid, and Insulation Wrap), we usually have what we need on the truck or within one day.

Our repair-vs-replace philosophy is simple. If a liner shows pinhole corrosion at one isolated seam and the rest of the liner is sound, we’ll repair that section with an OEM connector and re-insulate. But if there are multiple corroded seams, deep kinks, or the liner’s diameter has narrowed significantly, piecemeal repair is false economy. We’ll tell you that replacing the liner now costs less than chasing leaks for five more winters. And we’ll show you the camera footage so you can make that call with your own eyes. Call (279) 243-2173 for an exact quote once we’ve inspected your system.

Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We start with the full chimney system, not just the liner. A Level 2 inspection includes camera footage of the entire DuraFlex liner interior, the insulation wrap condition, the crown, the cap, and the connector at the appliance. In a 1940s Land Park bungalow, our inspector found a DuraFlex AL294C liner with condensation corrosion at three seams. We pulled the liner, cleaned the flue, and rebuilt the crown before installing a new DuraFlex 316L with full insulation wrap. Draft came back to spec and the homeowner now runs fires without worry. That’s the kind of diagnosis we do on every call.
  2. 2
Repair or replacement. Based on the camera evidence, we walk you through every option. If repair is safe, we quote it. If replacement is the smarter move, we explain why, and the written price is in your hand before any work starts.
  3. 3
Cleaning and installation. We use rotary cleaning heads sized specifically for flexible liners, never wire brushes that can scratch or dent DuraFlex corrugations. When installing new liner sections, we use OEM DuraFlex components and the correct insulation wrap thickness for your BTU output and fuel type.
  4. 4
Testing. After any repair or installation, we test draft with a smoke match and check CO readings at the flue collar and in the living space. A fireplace that vents properly is a mechanical system, not a decoration, and we test it like one.
  5. 5
Warranty and clean-up. Every DuraFlex service is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. Shoe covers and drop cloths go down on arrival, nothing is moved without asking, and we take a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. You get that photo. If anything isn’t right, call us and we fix it.

DuraFlex Products We Service & Install in Sacramento

We service and install four DuraFlex product lines in Sacramento homes. The DuraFlex 316L flexible chimney liner handles the high temperatures of wood-burning fireplaces and is the most common liner we encounter in older Sacramento ranch and split-level homes. The DuraFlex AL294C flexible liner is built for gas appliances and is rated for the condensation that comes with natural gas combustion. The DuraFlex ProTech rigid liner appears in newer construction where a straight, smooth-walled flue is possible, and we service those as well. Finally, DuraFlex Insulation Wrap goes around liners to maintain flue gas temperature, and we inspect it during every cleaning. We typically stock common diameters of 316L and AL294C, plus insulation wrap and connector components, in our Sacramento service vehicle.

We Also Service These Brands

DuraFlex is one part of what we do. Our Sacramento crews also service HeatShield and Gelco systems, plus a full range of traditional masonry chimneys without liners. If you have a mixed system or aren’t sure what’s inside your flue, we’ll figure it out with a camera inspection and give you the same written price before any work begins.
